MD Warriors get themselves back in the win column.
Playing a fourth straight home contest, the Jeffrey Custom Masonry Minor Bantam MD Warriors got themselves back in the win column with a 3-2 victory over the St. Catharines Hurricanes on Sunday. It was a back and forth affair with the Hurricanes taking an early lead midway through the first period. The Warriors would answer in the opening minute of the second when Keegan Riehl and Zach Freeland broke in on a 2 on 1. Riehl would make no mistake going high glove on the St. Catharine’s netminder. Jackson Nickel would also draw an assist. Stratford would take the lead in the final minutes of the frame when Colton Cowan pounced on a goal mouth scramble and fired a quick shot over the sprawling Hurricane goalie. Carter Stock and Jacob Bossence provided the assists. St. Catharine’s would pull even midway through the third period, but moments later on a nice breakout orchestrated by Owen Duiker and Spencer Eidt, Ethan Boersma stepped over the blueline and wired bullet wrist shot top shelf to put the Warriors ahead for good. Brody Jeffrey and Alex Franke battled hard in the final minutes to keep the St. Catharines offence at bay and Dailey Trainor was stellar once again in backstopping the Warriors to victory. Stratford will try to keep things rolling this weekend at the North London Classic tournament.
