Weekend Recap
Dunny's Source for Sports Atom MD Warriors battled hard, but came up short in two home games this past weekend.

On Saturday, the Warriors started slow against a strong London Bandits Black squad and saw themselves down early. They found their legs in the third period and outplayed London down the stretch, but were unable to overcome the deficit. Sam Gerber scored for the Warriors from Ethan Boersma and Mitchell Leitch.  Matthew Trachsel and Cameron Hahn played strong games defensively while Colin Wickenheiser stood tall between the pipes under a barrage of shots.

On Sunday, the Warriors put forth their best effort of the season against the feared Oakridge Aeros.  The tribe carried the play early on, but two questionable penalty calls which both led to powerplay goals had the Warriors down 2-0 after one period.  Midway through the 2nd, Nick McCabe won a battle in front of the net and banged in a rebound to cut the lead in half.  Oakridge replied with another powerplay marker late in the frame to carry a 3-1 lead into the third.  The Warriors came out strong in the final period and had several great scoring chances denied by the Oakridge goaltender.  Maddox Keller was finally able to poke one into the Aeros net to draw the Warriors close with 9 minutes remaining, but a late surge by Oakridge went unmatched by the gritty Warriors and they eventually fell 7-2 to the Aeros.  Warrior assists went to Corey Van Nes, Liam Flanagan, James Koch and Nathan Cardoso.  Winger Jacob Bossence was a force at both ends of the ice throughout the contest and rearguards Jackson Nickel, Owen Akey and Ethan Skinner held the fort defensively.  Brock Barclay played well in net.
