Benton Leads Rheo Thompson Warriors to Convincing Win on Weekend
Liam Benton's hattrick lead the Rheo Thompson East Novice Warriors to a big win on Sunday in Burlington. The boys also played host to St.Catherines Hurricanes on Saturday and kept the game exciting but came away with a loss.

The first game on Saturday against St.Catherines was back and forth and dead even as the boys would head into the 3rd period with the Hurricanes leading by a mere goal 4-3. This was an internal victory for the boys as last time they played the Hurricanes in St.Catherines they were defeated 12-3. The first period would have the Hurricanes open the scoring leading by 2 goals, but Liam Benton would pull the Warriors within 1 on a powerplay goal late in the period. Hudsyn Chaput would tie the game for the Warriors early in the 2nd period on another powerplay goal. St.Catherines would take the lead a minute later only to have Maddyx Chaput tie the game once again for the Warriors with the assist going to Benton. The Hurricanes would add another at the end of the 2nd period and a couple quick goals in the 3rd to put out the fire in the Warriors efforts, final score was a loss 7-3. Owen Vangestal made some major strides in his defensive game and was awarded the player of the game for Stratford.

Sunday the boys were ready to play as they travelled to Burlington to face the Bulldogs. The last time the 2 met was last weekend in Byron and it was a stalemate 2-2. The game today proved to be a much different result. Less than 3 minutes into the game Maddyx Chaput would establish a presence for the Warriors on a nice goal with the helper going to Charlie Holloway. The 1st period was looking much like the game in Byron when Burlington would tie the game at the end of the 1st period. Liam Benton would then get the first of his 3 goals for the game on an unassisted effort. Hudsyn Chaput would add to the lead on a great pass from Henry Flanagan with the additional helper going to Finley Newton. Blake McItosh would score his first goal as a Warrior after Charlie Holloway would ring it off the crossbar with both he and Maddyx Chaput hungry to be sure the puck crossed the goal line. Hudsyn Chaput would round out the scoring for the boys on a sweet deke for his second of the game. Ethan Priestap was awarded two helpers on the day, as was Maddyx Chaput. Mason Bauld and Andrew Davis played a solid game on defence shutting the door in the 3rd period and Jake Taylor was sharp in the pipes. Rem Hruden and Will McKee chipped in well in the neutral zone to move the puck forward to the offensive zone. The final score was 7-3 for the Warriors, with Liam Benton being awarded the player of the game.
