Rheo Thompson Warriors Make It To Semi-Finals In Boston Pizza Cup
This past weekend had the Rheo Thompson Novice Warriors travel to St.Thomas to compete in the Boston Pizza Cup Challenge that hosted 24 teams in their division. It was an excellent level of competition for the boys where they had the opportunity to face some top competition from all over, including the GTA.

Game 1 on was on Friday afternoon against a very eager and hungry Southpoint Capitals team. The 1st period would remain scoreless until Hudsyn Chaput would get the Warriors on the board nearing the end of the 2nd period with Maddyx Chaput and Jake Schultz earning the helpers. The 3rd frame remained close and Southpoint would find the equalizer with 2:06 remaining until Hudsyn Chaput immediately pulled the boys back into the lead with 1:53 to play. With the empty net and the Capitals pressing, Maddyx Chaput would gain possession of the puck, but while being pressured by the Southpoint defence shot just wide of the net. He would not quit and gained his own rebound and with 0:01 to play would score for the Warriors, ending the game with the win for Stratford 3-1. Carter Keating had a strong game in the Net for Stratford and Nate VanBakel earned player of the game.

The second game of the tournament would see the Warriors face the Niagra Falls Flyers. The boys came out fast and furious and kept coming. Some great puck movement was shown by the boys and leading the way on the scoresheet was Hudsyn Chaput with 2 goals and 4 assists.  Maddyx Chaput would contribute with 4 goals, while Caden Ollson had 2 goals and an assist. Jack Haines, Evan Hughes, and Nate VanBakel each netted a goal in the win. Also earning assists on the Warrior goals were Piers Murray with (2), Fischer MacPherson, Owen Blackburn, Evan Hughes, Jake Schultz, Nate VanBakel, Caellum Parsons, Reid Morris, Jack Bannon and Griffin Harvey. Jakob Strahm would earn the shutout in the 11-0 win and Caellum Parsons earned player of the game with his relentless effort in the game.

Game 3 was against the Oakridge Aeros. The Aeros came out with a jump on the Warriors as they would score the first 3 goals of the game. Late in the 2nd Hudsyn Chaput would pull the boys close with a pair of goals with the helpers belonging to Maddyx Chaput and Jack Bannon but that is a close as it would get for them on this day. The Aeros scored an empty net goal to cap off a late effort by the Warriors to try to tie the game. Final score was for the Aeros 6-2 with the win. Jake Schultz entered a gritty effort for the Warriors and earned player of the game.

Game 4 was the beginning of the playoffs as the Warriors would find themselves seed #1 of 8 teams in the B division. Their opponent for the Quater-Finals would once again be Southpoint. Stratford would come out with more jump this game and it was shown on the score sheet with the 5-1 win, advancing them to the Semi-Finals. Hudsyn and Maddyx Chaput each scored a pair of goals and Jake Schultz netted the other for Stratford. Griffin Harvey, Caden Ollson, Jake Schultz earned the helpers in the game. Jakob Strahm would earn the player of the game for Stratford.

The final game of the weekend was a Semi-final matchup against a well established GTA team in the Duffield Devils. The 1st period was the best for the boys as they would still be tied 0-0 at the end of the frame. Carter Keating made some stellar saves to keep the boys in the game, but the shots kept coming. Early in the 2nd frame the Devils got a couple quick goals on some bad bounces and then added a pair more to end the 2nd leading 4-0. The boys were unable to dig themselves back out, but tighted up play in the 3rd frame to end the game with the eventual division champions the Duffield Devils advancing to the afternoon finals.

Although the the boys had a couple of tough losses in the tournament, they did enjoy a good weekend both on and off the ice. They look forward to their next 2 playoff games this coming weekend in London against the Bandits and their 2nd playoff game against Oakridge on Sunday. Both games will be on the road.
