Playoff Weekend Round-up - By Erin Heisz
The Hiller Realty Minor Peewee Rep Team were ready for a do, die or tie game against the London Mustangs Purple on Saturday evening at the RBC arena.

The game started with a penalty being called 11 seconds after puck drop.  Sam Jeffrey and Wes Duiker worked hard against the Mustangs power play.  Jeffrey and Danny Van Straaten put good offensive pressure on London.  Kiefer MacNeil made 2 saves and the penalty was killed.  Aidan Benton and Cole Meadows were making great passes back and forth and Benton took a hard shot on net.  Luke Zorgdrager forced a wide shot on a 2 on 1.  The Mustangs scored with 6 minutes left in the period.  Luke Heisz motored down from centre ice to stop a 2 man breakaway.  There were some technical issues with the net that it kept popping loose but MacNeil didn’t let it phase him and kept the saves coming.  Colton Gibson had a nice between the legs play at the blue line to get it over to Zorgdrager and Van Straaten.  Thomas Sheldon was doing a great job of keeping it in the Mustangs end and Kaden Brame fired off a shot from one of these plays.  Heisz took on a 3 on 1 and forced a wide shot.  Despite the awesome offensive pressure, the Mustangs snuck it back into our end to make it 2-0.

Duiker started off the second with good shots on net.  So far the Mustangs goalie was not letting many rebounds out and was playing solid.  The Warriors got their first power play and Owen Holloway had a scoring chance but the Mustangs killed it effectively.  Gibson made a shot from the blue line that veered over to Brame – Brame shot it in to get the Warriors on the board!  Score was now 2-1.  MacNeil stayed strong as the Mustangs increased their pressure to get back the 2 goal lead.  Benton continued his excellent passing and Hayden White-Roy took 2 great shots on net.  Meadows had a shot that resulted in a loose puck and fans were standing in their seats.  Brame was firing off more shots from the slot.  Holloway raced the puck down on a 3 on 1.  Jared Gould was working hard at the boards and passing it up front over and over.  Jeffrey had a shot and Jake Heinbuch got the rebound and fired off one that looked like it went in but was just wide – fans moaned as we got tricked by the angle and thought we had it tied up.  Just 30 seconds later Meadows had another shot that tricked us again and just flew an inch over the bar.  White-Roy had a huge play to help out the D on a big rush.  Then White-Roy shot the puck down the ice to the goalie – we were hoping there might be a bauble as it took a funny little roll but no such luck.  Avery Thurston was keeping it in the zone and Brame and Holloway were making shots on net.  With 3 minutes left in the period the Mustangs got a penalty.  Heinbuch made a great shot off a solid pass from Gould.  Holloway shot as well.  Gibson got the puck and shot on net, the rebound went out to Van Straaten who sent it home.  We were tied 2-2!  Zorgdrager blocked a shot and the puck went down into the Mustangs end.  He shot it on net and the rebound went loose.  Traffic by the Warriors at the net made fans jump up and down thinking we were going to take the lead but the buzzer went.

Gibson continued his excellent play into the third period where he stopped a 2 on 1 and flew off the bench to break up a rush.  Thurston moved the puck into the Mustangs end again and Van Straaten tried a wrap around.  MacNeil kept the tie safe with many saves.  Zorgdrager made multiple shots from the point and Meadows from the slot but this goalie was back in his groove and nothing was getting through.  The Mustangs goalie approached his bench on a whistle and the fans were confused as the Warriors looked like they had a time out while refs talked to the Mustangs.  The other Mustangs goalie was made to come into net by the refs to play since his counterpart had come to the bench.  Always more to learn about the rules of hockey for us parents and fans!  Brame figured we might have better luck against this goalie and fired off a hard shot to test him.  It was stopped and vigourous cheering ensued by the London fans.  The original goalie came back out and play resumed like normal.  The team all worked very hard to get a record number of shots on the Mustangs net.  MacNeil made a monster save and fans went wild.  The Warriors did not give up and we are all very proud of them.  The Mustangs went on a scoring blitz in the last few minutes of the game and it ended with a score of 6-2 Mustangs.
