Weekend Highlights
The Dunny's Stratford Major Atom MD Warriors came close to their first win this past weekend, in exhibition play against the Mitchell Meteors.  With Sunday's action they played a very hard game both defensively and offensively, however falling short of goals to the Woodstock Navy Jets.

The Warriors came out strong in the first, leading the whole period in shots with some great chances, including a near goal by Jack Murphy on a rebound. Hutton Patterson and the defensive lines kept Mitchell out of scoring contention for the first 10 minutes, even when the Warriors were playing short-handed. Jakob Dugas tried get the scoring started in the second, but was denied the goal by a nice save by the Mitchell goalie. Patterson continued strong play, making a few quick saves in a row but the Mitchell team was relentless and put one, then a second in the net before the middle of the second when Devon Loerzel came into net. The Warriors were moving the puck well out of the zone when a Dugas took a pass from Noah Rankin to make it 1-2. Unfortunately Mitchell turned around to score another, putting them up 3-1 by the end of 2nd. In the third, Nate Framst carried the puck end to end, and then split the Mitchell defense to score another for the Warriors. With the team sensing a win was in their grasp, Adam Jeffrey drove one to the net, where Jakob Dugas picked up the rebound to score his second of the game. Down by just one, the team fought hard to keep Mitchell out, with strong back checking by Nolan Trainor and Cole Humphrey, diving saves by Jackson Campbell, and solid tending by Loerzel. Offensively the Warriors keep digging, with Framst denied his second goal of the game with a big save by Mitchell. With our goalie pulled in the final minute, the Warriors weren't able to capitalize with the extra man out, but the team celebrated in playing one of their best games of the season.

On Sunday, the Dunny's Stratford Major Atom MD Warriors looked to build on this momentum when they faced off against the Woodstock Navy Jets in league play. The first period had both teams battling hard offensively, with Woodstock scoring first. It didn't take long for Jakob Dugas to respond putting one past the Woodstock defense to tie it up. Back in action after being away, Jack Buckley received a beautiful pass from Nate Framst to put the Warriors up 2-1 at the end of the first. In the second, Woodstock tied it up early but the Warrior squad continued to play a strong defensive game, with awesome grabs by Hutton and all lines clearing the puck well to keep Woodstock out of our end. Even with a couple great short handed chances by the Warriors, the teams were still even by the end of second. The Jets weren't backing down though. Hutton made a huge breakaway save followed by a sweet glove save, but Woodstock kept pushing the puck to add another couple of goals. Even with Framst, Eric Haynes, and Noah Roth chipping in on the offensive efforts, the Warriors couldn't find the net in the third. The Jets won 6-2.
