PRESTON QUARTERFINALISTS

The Holloway Automotive Minor Atoms played their best 4 game stretch of the season last weekend reaching the Quarterfinals of the Preston International Tournament.

Game 1 against Ottawa Silver Seven White-AAA was closer than the 5-2 score. The game was tied 2-2 with less than 5 minutes left before Ottawa scored a tough-bounce goal, a PP goal and an empty netter. Bowlsey was sharp in the pipes and the D were up to the challenge of limiting the speedy Ottawa attack.

Game 2 was a 2-1 victory over the Sudbury Wolves. The game was tightly contested again with Stratford up 1-0 until Sudbury tied the game with just under 2 minutes to go. However the Warriors persevered and just 20 seconds later Bridgey potted the GWG. Great goaltending again was displayed by Walters.

The next 2 games were against a strong Goulding Park squad from Toronto. Their 11 skaters came out flying and it took our boys a little adjusting to get up to their speed. After falling behind 2-0 early the team readjusted and secured a goal to make it 2-1 and made for a tight finish. But in the end Goulding was just too strong as they added an empty netter for the 3-1 victory.

Even though the boys were 1 and 2 in round-robin play the tight games allowed our Warriors to earn the 8th seed in the 12 team field. On tap was a rematch with Goulding who had secured the number 1 seed from pool results. This time our boys knew what to expect and played a fantastic game... we went up 1-0 in the 2nd but Goulding tied the game early in the 3rd on a questionable non-off side call. Alas, another dramatic finish was in store as GP managed to score the go-ahead goal with just 1.2 seconds left on the clock....

The young Warriors played "fast and hard" and now look to take their reinvigorated game back into league play where they are trying to secure the first place banner.
