Major Atoms Bring Home Silver!
The Perth Auto Dismantlers Major Atom Warriors battled their way through a full weekend of hockey to be one of the last two teams standing in the 22 team Kitchener Oktoberfest Tournament!

In pool play action the Warriors first match up was against a strong Mississauga Terriers team.  The boys found themselves down 2 goals by the half way point in the game but they battled back with some strong defence from Austin Musselman and Rylan Hall.  At the six minute mark in the second Carter Petrie fired one in off a feed from Dawson White.  Minutes later Colin Schultz tied the game with White and Zach Schultz setting him up.  Brenden Sippel fought hard in net for the tie.

Later that day the Warriors then faced the Burlington Eagles Blue squad.   The Eagles struck first with a goal late in the first but the trio of C. Schultz, Petrie and Blair Stokes worked together to answer back tying the game at one a piece.  In the second period the one two punch of C.Schultz and Grady Murphy gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead.  The Eagles managed to slide one in tying the game at 2 each.  Ryan Gansevles and Dylan Abel fought hard in the neutral zone and Ryan McGill worked hard between the pipes to hold the tie.

Game 3 of pool play saw the Warriors battle a very large Greater Toronto Capitals. Petrie opened the scoring mid-way through the first, assisted by Stokes and Steele.  Murphy then walked in and scored one short handed to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. In the third, on the power play Stokes netted one, assisted by Aaron Green and C.Schultz. The Warriors closed out the game with a rocket from Dawson White, assisted by C.Schultz and Murphy. Netminder Sippel was rock solid between the pipes.

In their final pool play game the Warriors took control early over the Glanbrook Rangers. The goaltending duo of Sippel and McGill only allowed one goal, while Stratford netted 11. Snipers for the Warriors were Petrie (4), C.Schultz (3), Stokes, Abel, Steele, and Murphy and helpers went to Hodgson, Steele, Petrie, Musselman and Abel.

Bright and early Sunday morning the Warriors took on the challenge of a 7am start against the Milton Winterhawks. Wide awake and ready to roll the boys nabbed a decisive 4-0 win. Sippel came up with some clutch saves to keep their snipers frustrated, allowing the Warriors to go to work. Outstanding work in the defensive zone from Z.Schultz, Rylan Hall and Ryan Gansevles helped Sippel earn the shut out. After a scoreless first  White opened the scoring in the second, assisted by Murphy. Moments later on the power play Stokes fired one in assisted by Green and Petrie. Nathan Siebert netted the third goal for the Warriors, assisted by Steele  while Petrie closed out the game with a final goal, assisted by Green and Schultz.

Semi final action saw the Warriors take on the Barrie Colts. Stratford stepped up early with two quick goals, one from Petrie unassisted and another  from Steele assisted C.Schultz.  Closing out the first the Warriors took a 3-0 lead with a goal from White assisted by Petrie. However, the Colts did not plan to go quietly as they fought back with a goal of their own.  Midway through the second Stokes sniped one in, assisted by Petrie making it 4-1. Barrie pushed back but the Warriors managed to hold them off to a 4-3 victory. Sippel took the win in net.

In the gold medal game the Warriors took on the Streetsville Tigers, a team who was undefeated and had only allowed two goals against in the tournament.  It was an intense first period with Petrie firing a rocket past the Tigers goalie, assisted by Murphy to open the scoring.  Sippel was tested again and again but came up with timely saves over and over.  Nearing the end of the first Streetsville managed to tie up the game and then early in the second took a 2-1 lead.  With Stratford in the box Murphy flew down and nabbed a shorthanded goal to tie the game!  The third period saw more end to end action with both goalies working hard.  Strong defensive work from Hodgson, Z.Schultz, Hall, Musselman and Gansevles helped hold off the Tigers until 19 seconds left in the game when they were able to grab the final goal before the buzzer.

The boys are commended for an amazing tournament!
