The Stratford Canadian Tire Jr. Warriors took three of a
possible four points in a of pair games in major bantam Alliance AA/A action
this past weekend. The Jr. Warriors, now holders of a 5-1-1 record, have not
lost a game in league or tournament play since a close 4-3 opening day loss to the
first place Cambridge Hawks on September 16th.
Stratford travelled to Sarnia to take on the host Jr. Sting Saturday afternoon, and backed by the strong play from goaltender Tallyn Soper, escaped with a 1-1 tie. Curtis Taylor was the lone Jr. Warrior goal scorer of the day, with Owen Fraser picking up the assist.
It was a different story Sunday evening, as the Jr. Warriors returned home and rediscovered their scoring touch, in a convincing 5-1 win over the London Jr. Mustangs (Purple). Zach Carman had a pair of goals to lead the offensive attack on this day, with Owen Duiker, Owen Fraser, and Carter Musselman all picking up singles. Three of the Warrior five goals were scored on the power play with London taking 10 minor penalties over the course of the game. Picking up assists for Stratford, were Caleb Musselman and Patrick Holloway with two apiece, and Braydon Tinning with one. Aaron Waugh was steady in net when called upon.
Stratford has allowed just 11 goals in 7 games thus far this season thanks to strong play from the back end. Waugh and Soper have been solid throughout, with the defensive corps of Caelen Trupp, Owen Fraser, Jack Whitehead, Nathan Graff, Maverick Mulder and Will Schlotzhauer also solidifying the 1.57 goals against average.
