Minor Peewee Rep Warriors Bring Home The Gold At The Paul Coffey Tournament!
The ‘07 Minor Peewee Rep team, sponsored by Royal LePage Hiller Realty had an impressive showing at the 33rd Annual Paul Coffey Tournament in Mississauga this weekend!

In their first game of the weekend the boys took on the Goulding Park Rangers.  Zack Irvin was large and in charge between the pipes, holding off their snipers.  In the first period the one two punch of Dawson White and Nathan Siebert combined for a goal and assist each to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.  The lone goal in the second came from Blair Stokes, assisted by Colin Schultz. The Rangers slipped one in early in the third but White and Siebert responded making it 4-1.  Jaxson Beirnes and Zach Schultz battled hard in the defensive zone to hold off the Rangers while C. Schultz added his second of the game to close out the game, assisted by Ryan Gansevles.

Game two the team took on the Hillcrest Canadiens.  The game was one-sided with Stratford winning 9-2. Netminder Ryan McGill was solid between the pipes.   Goals came from Stokes (4), Carter Petrie (2), Grady Murphy (1), Gansevles (1) and Blake Hodgson (1), with helpers from Stokes, Petrie, Ryan McGee, Siebert, Aaron Green, White and Murphy.  Solid work on the blue line from Austin Musselman and Rylan Hall held the Canadiens at 2.

In a highly anticipated battle the Warriors came up against the North York Knights Saturday morning. Irvin got the call to mind the cage and was rock solid, making save after save.  It wasn’t until late in the second period when the Knights capitalized on a power play to make it 1-0. Stratford fought hard looking for the equalizer but came up short.

In their final game of divisional play the Warriors battled the Oakville Rangers.  Needing the win to move on, the boys went to work with McGill coming up with huge toe saves throughout the game.  Stratford goals were scored by Petrie (3), Murphy (1), McGee (2), C. Schultz (1), White (1) and Siebert (1) and helpers from Stokes, Petrie, Beirnes, Siebert, C.Schultz, Hall, McGee, Z. Schultz, Musselman, Murphy, Green and Hodgson. Shout out to Irvin for his epic self body check!

With only 4 teams left of the 16 who started Stratford advanced to the semi-finals against the Toronto Royals.  It was an intense game with netminder Irvin protecting his cage well!  It wasn’t until the second period when Toronto scored first, but Stratford answered back with a bullet from C.Schultz. End to end action with both teams pressing hard resulted in a tie, forcing the game into overtime. Twenty- one seconds in, Petrie chipped the puck to Green, who sent it over to Stokes, who fired it in for the game winner!

In the gold medal game the Warriors found themselves against the Burlington Eagles Gold. Always a good battle this game didn’t disappoint! The Eagles drew first blood in the second period, sliding one past Irvin for a 1-0 lead. But that would be all Irvin allowed as the Stratford snipers went to work. Stokes opened the scoring for the Warriors, unassisted mid-way through the game and Siebert rifled in a feed from Petrie to take a 2-1 lead. Musselman and Hall held the blue line to keep the Eagles at bay, while in the third Murphy netted one unassisted and Sibert grabbed his second of the game, assisted by White for the 4-1 win.  The boys are commended for their incredible teamwork throughout all 6 games played this weekend! Well done Warriors!

Next action:  Thursday December 6 @ 7:00 vs Waterloo at the RBC.
