The ‘07 Minor Peewee Rep team, sponsored by Royal LePage Hiller Realty battled hard during the final weekend of the holidays to secure two wins and an epic tie.
Thursday night the Warriors faced off against the St. Thomas Jr Stars in their fourth and final meeting of the season. Stratford took a commanding 5-0 lead before the Stars nabbed two of their own. Blair Stokes, Carter Petrie, Colin Schultz, Grady Murphy and Ryan McGee each scored once, while Petrie (2), Stokes (2), Dawson White, Nathan Siebert (2) and Blake Hodgson each added helpers. Outstanding glove saves from Ryan McGill coupled with strong defensive play from Rylan Hall and Austin Musselman held St. Thomas at two. An empty netter from C.Schultz secured the 6-2 victory.
Friday night the boys hit the highway to take on the London Jr. Knights White for and epic battle. Zach Irvin was in charge between the pipes and was DiPietro style solid the entire game! The Warriors struck first late in the third when Irvin sent the puck to Petrie who went end to end sniping one in past the Knights netminder. Strong work in the neutral zone from Zach Schultz and Hodgson held off the London attack, until mid-way through the second when London capitalized on a power play opportunity. London would capitalize again with 1:36 left in the game to take a 2-1 lead but the Warriors are not a team to give up. With seconds left on the clock and London having an empty net opportunity, outstanding back checking from Aaron Green allowed him to send the puck up the ice to Stokes and Schultz who got the puck through to Petrie, who deked in with 2 seconds left and tied the game!
It was another road trip on Sunday as the team travelled to Sarnia to take on the Junior Sting. Stratford opened the scoring mid way through the first with a rocket from Petrie. Jaxson Biernes fought hard along the boards to hold off the Sting snipers closing out the first with a 1-0 lead. The Warriors extended their lead when Stokes slid one blocker side making it 2-0 and Petrie nabbed his second of the game off a feed from Murphy. Irvin’s hot glove continued to stonewall Sarnia until late in the game when they final nabbed a couple of goals, but Stratford took the win 3-2.
Next action: The Warriors travel to Newmarket Jan 10-13 to participate in 33rd Annual International Silver Stick Tournament.
