Good Win
The Stratford Canadian Tire Major Bantams travelled to London for their final
pre-season game vs the GHLA Jr. Mustangs White at the brand new Bostwick Arena.
Drew Wilken, a first-year Warrior defender from the Listowel area, opened the scoring late in the first frame with a solid drive to the net and goalmouth scramble. Nick Houben picked up an assist on the goal.
The contest was tied 1-1 headed into the final frame after a late second period goal by the Jr. Mustangs. Houben scored an unassisted marker just 23 seconds into the final frame to put the Warriors in front 2-1. Just 27 seconds after Houben’s goal, the Warriors went up by two goal when Tyler Wagler scored from Jacob Hall. The Mustangs battled hard to knot the game at 3-3 with less than 5 minutes to play. With just 2:46 left in the third, Jonas Schmidt netted the game-winner with assists to Zack McCann and Matthew Barber who had battled hard along the boards to maintain the Warriors attack in the offensive zone. Russel Sebben and Curtis Ball split the duties in net for the 6th time this season and earned their 5th win in 6 games.
Last season, the Warriors struggled against the Jr. Mustangs White team, going 0-2-1 over the course of the season. Regular season action begins this weekend with two games on the schedule.
