Written by Dave Graff. The SMHA Stratford Motor Products Minor Midget rep
team suffered an overtime loss at home Saturday and a painful tie in London on
Sunday in Alliance AA playoff action giving the Jr Green Knights a five point
to three lead going into game five Tuesday in Stratford.
Saturday at the rec centre a rebound goal by the visitors to tie the game with 13 seconds left and the winner early into overtime gave the Knights the 4-3 victory and a four point to two series lead. Goals by Owen Duiker and Will Scholtzhauer had staked the Warriors to a 2-0 second period lead and a Caleb Musselman tally made it 3-2 Warriors going to the break. Luke Gaylor had two helpers for Stratford while Jacob Hall, Schlotzhauer, Caleb Musselman and Patrick Holloway had one each.
Sunday in London the Warriors ran into penalty trouble with less than four minutes to play in the third and after two Knight five on three tallies and a third power play marker a 2-0 Stratford lead had suddenly turned into a 3-2 deficit with less than a minute to play. With goalie Nolan Traynor on the bench Ryan Adriaanse pulled the puck out of a scrum and went top shelf to tie the game with four seconds to play and keep this AA series going for Stratford. Bantam call up Cole Lewis and Duiker scored second period goals to give the Warriors the 2-0 lead. Carter Musselman, Hall and Schlotzhauer had the assists.
Game five goes Tuesday at the rec centre and if a Warrior win forces a game six it would be back in London on Wednesday.
