The
Royal LePage Hiller Realty Minor Peewee Rep Warriors had an exciting weekend
finalizing their regular season on the top of the “A” standings. The Warriors spent their Friday night facing
the fierce Hamilton Huskies who were sitting in first. The evenly matched teams battled back and
forth. The Warrior’s first goal came at
the beginning of the second period from Cole Hishon, who was assisted by Nathan
Slaght.
. The Huskies answered back with a goal mid way through the second. Colton Brenzil scored one for the Warriors at the end of the second period. Again the Huskies managed a goal to tie it up at the start of the third period. Brenzil added his second goal of the game mid way through the third, assisted by Slaght. Slaght secured the Warrior’s win, when he scored shorthanded at the end of the third in the 4-2 win.
The Warriors prepared themselves Saturday at practice for the double header on Sunday against Burlington Royal and Burlington Green. The Warriors first game against Burlington Royal started off with a quick goal 22 seconds into the first period, when Nathan Slaght got the momentum started, assisted by Rylan DeBoeck. Colton Brenzil added the second Warriors goal during a penalty kill, he was assisted by Ryan Cassone. Tessa Burdett scored the third goal, after she picked up a rebound off of Mason Bauld’s shot from the point. Owen Bridges got in on the action adding the fourth goal on the power play, he was assisted by Bowden Lyons. Slaght added his second goal of the game, assisted by Cassone and DeBoeck. Cassone added the Warrior’s sixth goal 11 seconds later, assisted by Brenzil and Bronwyn Langis. The Warrior's next goal came from Burdett, assisted by Bridges and DeBoeck to end the second period. In the third period the Warrior's slowed up a bit, and Burlington was able to get a goal on the board. The Warrior's answered back with goals from Bauld, Cole Hishon and DeBoeck. Langis, Henry Flanegan, Slaght, and Cassone all assisted the final goals in the 10-1 win.
The Warriors knew the next game would be a tougher battle and that they needed to win to ensure their spot at the top of the standings. The Warriors were up to face the Burlington Green team, who also was fighting to climb higher in the standings. The game was scoreless for the first period and a half of the game, as the teams fiercely fought to find the back of the net. Cole Hishon answered the call for a goal when he scored at the end of the second period, assisted by Rylan DeBoeck and Ryan Cassone. Less than a minute later Cassone added Stratford’s second goal of the game on the power play. He was assisted by Nathan Slaght and Bronwyn Langis. The Warrior's worked hard to keep the Burlington team out of their zone despite lots of penalty kill minutes. The Warriors defeated Burlington Green 2-0. Goaltenders Ethan Walters and Jake Taylor shared the shutout, both playing vital roles in the games all weekend. The Warrior's look forward to starting their play-downs next Saturday February 15th, against the Burlington Cougars Royal at the Rotary Complex for a double header.
