Warriors Go Undefeated into the Semis in Orillia
Submitted by Sarah Jeffrey
Game 1 of the 2019 Orillia hockey tournament began with a bit of a slow start with North Durham taking control quickly the first few minutes of the game.  After some awesome goalie saves-the Warriors settled in for some great back and forth plays using great passes to fellow teammates.  There was definite opportunity for use of our penalty-killing and power play skills.   The game final was 4-2 for the Stratford Warriors.

In Game 2 both teams played strongly both offensively and defensively. We started off the taking the lead 1-0, but with so much back and forth the game was soon tied 2-2. The Warriors took this opportunity to kick things in high gear shifting the score in our favour 4-2. In the end of the 3rd we ended up taking a seat in the box-with Whitby Wildcats pulling their goalie making a 6-4 play to attempt to lessen the goal gap. The Warriors worked hard successfully to thwart that effort and slipped by the Wildcats defensive line to bury the puck one last time making a 5-2 victory.

Game 3 set the Warriors against the host team Orillia Terriers. The game was fast paced which left the Warriors playing more defensively and gaining some penalty time in the box. By the end of the game the score remained tied at 2-2 leading to a shootout! 1st shooters on both sides-unsuccessful, 2nd shooters on both sides-unsuccessful, 3rd shooter for Orillia-unsuccessful, 3rd shooter for Warriors-#14...Liam Eddleston made the shot of the game-making in 3-2 and leaving the Warriors undefeated in the tournament!

The semi-final game on Sunday was back against North Durham. Unfortunately North Durham took an early lead which pushed the Warriors to work harder and were able to tie the game. The penalty box became familiar to Warriors however and North Durham used the 5-3 advantage to get a puck past the strong goal-tending efforts . The Warriors came back with their own efforts-pulling the goalie to make a 6-5 advantage but fell short when North Durham was able to get the puck through and score on the empty net. By the end of the game North Durham was able to get one more goal leaving the Warriors with a Silver medal finish in the tournament with a final score of 5-2.
