Warriors Hold on For the Weekend – Go Undefeated in 8

Short Bench Taking Its Toll
The All Equip Repair Stratford PeeWee MD Warriors are on a roll in 2020. In their Tier 2 round robin playoff run that began 6 weeks ago the boys have held off every opponent and have proudly prevailed with a perfect record.  The challenges have begun to mount however as the Warriors have lost 2 top string forwards forcing the squad to dig deep and push their legs through each ever-improving opponent that comes their way.

The next test came on home ice Saturday Feb 15 as the Warriors hosted the current number 2 seed Burlington Bulldogs White. The Burlington team drove into Stratford with a dawg gone-ed attitude ready to take advantage of a crippled warrior team. Warriors started flat on their feet allowing the Bulldogs to strike hard and strike often.  By the end of the first the Warriors were down 3-0 as an audible silence could be felt across the RBC stands. The Warriors would turn on one engine as a sputtering Dylan Abel would work his magic to put the Warriors on the board. Burlington would answer yet again going up 4-1 on the power play all but insuring to the home fans that their boys would be dealt their first major blow of the second season.  The home crowd would however underestimate the resolve of this squad that was born to play in 2020. Liam Ollson brought them within two before the second frame would end and Dylan Abel would get them within 1 early in the third. With the home crowd now buzzing Warrior D man Sam Binns would take a loose puck from the point and shelve a labelled wrister into the Bulldog net tying things up 4-4.  The Warrior D consisting of Jeffrey, Eddleston, Binns and Jackson, sweating and tired running double shifts with the short bench would aid net minder Lachlan Stanley to the finish line as he faced unrelenting rubber from the Bulldogs who would try desperately to prevail over the home side. They would not get through again.  Warriors remained undefeated in a 4-4 draw.

The boys would hit the road Sunday for a matinee taking another long trek to St. Catherine’s to face the struggling Hurricanes.  Remaining short two young men up front the Warriors path to victory would prove again not to be easy. The first frame would remain scoreless and the Hurricanes would show the Warriors improved puck movement getting pressure at the Warrior netminder Sippel time and again. Into the Second a determined Owen Chadwick would steal the puck on his wing and drive the net lifting one over a sprawling Hurricane netminder lifting his team up 1-0. Liam Ollson would soon follow taking a nearby rebound and burying the Warrior’s second. The Hurricanes would answer with a 2-1 power play goal forcing the boys to hold on with ever collapsing legs. Warrior wingers Jared Smith, Rowan Smith and Quinn Hyde would dig the boards deep keeping the play to the Hurricanes while the Warrior’s solid 4 blueliners held off the remaining Hurricane advances. Ellis Schnuur provided insurance late in the third ensuring the Warriors would stay undefeated in 8.

7-0-1 in 2020 is a proud achievement these guys have worked hard for, well done.
