The Stratford Minor Midget Warriors, sponsored by Stratford Motor Products,
hosted the London Jr Mustangs White at the RBC in Stratford on Saturday and came
away with a 5-2 win.
The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, including a goal under a minute into the contest off the stick of Nole Musselman from Ethan Scrimgeour.
In the second period, both teams netted a single marker to make it a 3-1 Warriors lead headed into the intermission. Goalie Russel Sebben made several spectacular saves in the contest, especially while the Jr Mustangs were on multiple extended 5 on 3 power plays. By the end of the second period, the Warriors had served seven minor penalties to the Jr Mustangs one.
In the third period, the Warriors scored two more times and the Jr Mustangs answered with one of their own to make the final 5-2 Warriors. Tyler Wagler paced the scoring with two goals and Cole Lewis and Jonas Schmidt added one goal apiece. Scrimgeour picked up two assists in the game, with singles from Drew Wilken and Jacob Hall.
Notes: in what seems to becoming a pattern with the assigned Referee for this game, the Warriors players were handed out a total of 11 minor penalties and, if not for the Jr Mustangs getting a minor plus an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the final two minutes, the Warriors opponents would have served only 3 penalties in the contest; luckily for the Warriors, they are typically well disciplined and the balance of penalties is generally similar between them and their opponent; the Warriors scheduling now has them on the road for five straight games, including three weeknight games over the next week; the Warriors next home game isn’t until Nov 24th when they host the Burlington Jr Cougars at the Dufferin arena
