The Stratford Warriors Minor Midgets, sponsored by Stratford Motor Products,
earned their ninth victory in the past ten regular season games by beating the
Burlington Jr Cougars 7-1 on Sunday
After a scoreless opening period, where the Warriors unofficially fired 19 shots at the Jr Cougars goalie, Jonas Schmidt put the Warriors on the board, from Jacob Hall and Aubrey Carter. The Jr Cougars answered back just three minutes later four-seconds into a power play off a flukey goal from the blue line that fooled goalie Curtis Ball and found the back of the net.
Drew Wilken fired home the eventual game-winner less than two minutes later, off a power play with Nole Musselman and Issac Deline drawing assists.
In the third, Caleb Arent and Aubrey Carter each netted two goals and Zach McCann, with a nice short-handed tally rounded out the goal scoring. Hall had two assists in the game, while Schmidt, Arent, and Cole Lewis picked up an assist each.
Despite outshooting the Jr Cougars by a very wide margin, goalie Curtis Ball turned aside several Jr Cougars scoring opportunities in the game when called upon. Notably, the Jr Cougars goalie made several point-blank saves and was especially stingy in the first two periods when the Warriors peppered 48 shots at the Jr Cougars net, with many being off breakaways or requiring quick saves off good lateral passing plays.
