The Stratford Minor Midget Warriors, sponsored by Stratford Motor Products,
faced off against two London teams resulting in a win and loss.
On Thursday, the Warriors traveled to London to face the league-leading London Jr Knights for the first time this season and came away on the losing side of a 3-1 score. Goalie Russel Sebben turned in another brilliant performance in net, while the defensive unit of Issac Deline, Matthew Barber, Anthony Guzvinec, Drew Wilken, and Zach McCann helped the Warriors control long stretches of play through the game. Caleb Arent scored the lone Warriors goal, with McCann drawing an assist. The game was fast-paced and hard-hitting and the final result could have gone either way, but the Jr Knights took full advantage of their chances.
On Sunday, the Warriors hosted the London Jr Mustangs Purple team and skated to a 5-2 victory. Guzvinec opened the scoring for the Warriors, with Jacob Hall and Jonas Schmidt picking up assists. Schmidt, from Barber scored the Warriors’ second goal, which knotted the game at 2-2 after the second period. In the third, Guzvinec scored his second of the night and the eventual game-winner, from Cole Lewis and Ethan Scrimgeour. Arent, unassisted, scored his second in as many games and Tyler Wagler netted the final goal, with Arent and Schmidt picking up assists. Goalie Curtis Ball gave his team the opportunity to earn the victory and was especially relied on when the game was still undecided in the opening two periods.
Notes: the Warriors travel to Kitchener to face the second-place Jr Rangers on Friday night, before returning to host the Hamilton Huskies at 3:30pm on Sunday at the Allman arena; the Warriors have run their record to 10-2-0 in their last twelve games and will be looking to continue their climb in Alliance league play as they head into the Christmas break.
