Written my Maureen Whitehead: The Stratford Jr B Warriors Midget team competed in the
Spartans Cup tournament in Michigan on the weekend taking a 3-0 record into the
semi-final game, losing to eventual tournament champions, Marquette. It
was still a successful weekend for the Warriors, finishing round robin play as
the undefeated 2nd seed.
In a well-played game with two evenly-matched teams, some unlucky bounces and an empty net goal were the deciding factors in the 2-0 semi-final loss.
Stratford started round robin play Friday with a 7-1 win over the Cincinnati Swords. Adam Windsor, Caleb and Carter Musselman, Noah Rusen-Steele and defencemen Jack Whitehead, Callan Ferguson and Tate Gaylor all scored in the win. Chipping in with assists were Ferguson, Patrick Holloway, and Jared LeSouder with two. Kyle Powers got the win in net.
In game 2 on Saturday, Carson Knott was near perfect in net as the Warriors peppered the Arsenal goalie with over 50 shots. Holloway and Rusen-Steele found the back of the net for Stratford in a 2-1 win.
Stratford wrapped up round robin play on Saturday night with a 6-2 win over Hudsonville, giving the Warriors an unblemished 3-0 record. Scoring for Stratford were Whitehead, both Musselmans, Holloway, Ferguson and Rusen-Steele. Assisting on the goals were Braydon Tinning, Luke Gaylor, Carter Musselman, Holloway, Ferguson and Whitehead.
