Written by Maureen Whitehead. The Stratford Jr Warriors Midget team has advanced to the
semifinals of the Alliance playoffs after 2 wins against the Sarnia Sting this
weekend.
On Saturday night in Stratford, the Warriors had a decisive 10-1 win over the Sting. Scoring for the Warriors were Caleb Musselman, Jack Whitehead, Noah Rusen-Steele, Patrick Holloway (2), Luke Gaylor (2), Aiden McMann, Eric Roes, and Adam Windsor. Chipping in with assists were Whitehead (3), Gaylor (2), Jared LeSouder (2), Musselman (2), Holloway, Rusen-Steele, Riley Mathieson, Caelan Trupp, and Windsor. Kyle Powers was the winning goalie.
In a much closer game Sunday night in Sarnia, the Warriors came out on top with a 2-1 win. After a scoreless first period, Stratford goalie Carson Knott made a spectacular glove save to keep the Sting off the scoreboard early in the 2nd period. Carter Musselman then gave Stratford the lead when he scored off a face-off win by Rusen-Steele. The Warriors went up 2-0 in the 3rd when Caleb Musselman wired a wrist shot just under the crossbar. He was assisted by Callan Ferguson and Tate Gaylor. With their goalie on the bench, Sarnia cut the lead in half with 1:22 left in the final frame but Stratford held on to win the game and the series.
The Warriors now await the winner of the Waterloo/Cambridge series.
