BAKERS DOZEN .. +2
HOCKEY IS A UNIQUE SPORT IN THE SENSE THAT YOU NEED EACH AND EVERY GUY HELPING EACH OTHER AND PULLING IN THE SAME DIRECTION TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

- Wayne Gretzky

The Holloway Auto Parts Plus U10 Rep Team travelled down the 403, Saturday evening to stare across from the Brantford 99ers at the Wayne Gretzky Center.

Think your going to score on me? Think again. Goaltender Sawyer Verspeeten’s calmness and focus was put to the test right away, with a quick breakaway, that he robbed from the 99ers. The tone was set, and the team rallied to protect their keep. Coleton Schmidt didn’t waste time, picking the puck off and heading down the ice to finish a wrap around that put the Warriors on the board first. Following play, Mason Bye’s quick release from a picked off rebound gave the Warriors their second goal. Nate Micks and Schmidt’s chemistry sent them down the ice, with a couple tape to tape passes, a little toe drag and shot fired by Schmidt top right corner to make it 3-0. Owen Hurley threw up another point, with an end-to-end rush and strategic five hole shot. The 99ers were having difficulty breaking through the Warriors blue line, when they caught a break from a bad bounce off the boards to send a 99er up the ice, defencemen Malcolm Austin-Olsen turned the jets on and stole their chances of a shot. Hurley made another zig zag, end to end rush deeking the goaltender out to throw up another point. Ending the period Bye’s hard efforts on forechecking gave him another offensive chance, that he capitalized on to give the Warriors half a dozen goals.

The second period was a little quieter, only netting two goals 😊.. Hurley steeling a puck from a penalty kill to net #7 and Micks saucing in goal #8. The blue line made up of Nick Forman, Austin-Olsen, Jaxon Hallock, Marcus Atkinson and Brayden Keating were rock solid! They all had a well-rounded game keeping their heads up, making good outlet passes, pushing 99ers to the boards, keeping pucks up the sides, clearing action in front of the net, challenging every puck and being a sturdy wall in front of their keeper.

Period three brought on yet another waterfall of goals. Tyler Peck’s aggressive play in open ice, turning over pucks to net two quick goals. Schmidt and Micks crowded the net, worked together to tap in goal #11. Hurley followed suit netting goal #12. Peck stole another puck, made a quick pass to line-mate Josef Moss, netting #13. Joey Bizter zipped down the ice, was tripped in front of the net, but that didn’t stop him, from the ground he slapped in goal #14. To finish the game off, Micks and Schmidt played tic-tac-toe netting #15.
