STAYING CONSISTENT
HOCKEY it’s about the passion, THE love for the game.
We stick together through thick and thin; we stand up for each other and NEVER back down.

WE ARE A TEAM

“The important thing is that we watch each other’s backs out on the ice. That’s what matters.” – Zdeno Chara (Boston Bruins)

The Holloway Auto Parts Plus U10 Rep Team carried on with their playoff’s this weekend facing off against the Kitchener Jr Rangers Saturday afternoon at the Sportsworld Twin Pads.

The boys had a good game working as a team; the defence running one man short, did a good job shutting the Rangers down and the wingers did a good job covering their defencemen on pinches, which helped eliminate any rushes. Defencemen Brayden Keating had a good game pinching in offering offensive support. Owen Hurley broke the ice first, getting a bouncing puck at the blue line, darting down the ice, making a quick tip between the defencemen’s legs to trickle in goal #1. Mason Bye kept the score at 1-0 with a strong back check, stopping a breakaway on a slow line change by the Warriors. Defencemen Nick Forman was sent a gliding puck at the blue line, that he whistled past the goaltender to make it 2-0. Winning the draw in the defence end, Hurley was swarmed by the Rangers chasing him down the ice, back handing in top right corner making it 3-0 ending the first period. Defencemen linemates Nash Rheil and Jaxon Hallock had a good game working off each other and clearing pucks up the boards. The second period, the Ranger battled a little harder on the boards, putting two players on each puck. At one point the Warriors were sitting on their heels a bit in the defence end, watching as the Rangers defencemen wound up to release a shot but was blocked by winger Tyler Peck, absorbing the hit off his shin to keep the puck out. Coleton Schmidt with a chip up the boards, went through the center, veered left snipping a shot off the bottom left post and back out, to net goal #4. Winger Joey Bitzer had a good game, tracking the puck and crashing the net for rebounds. Defencemen Marcus Atkinson had a good period, aggressively attacking the puck and challenging the Rangers in the d-zone. Schmidt again using his strength leading the Rangers in a rat race down the ice releasing a wrist shot top right corner making it 5-0. Midway through the period Rangers got a good bounce sending them on a 3v1 but were redirected by Forman’s wingspan to stop the rush. Third period started with the Rangers netting their lone goal. Andrew Hodgins keeping his head up, looking for his linemates made a quick pass to Hurley, sending him down the right side to net goal #6. Goaltender Sawyer Verspeeten conquered a couple PK’s, keeping his pads firmly against the posts and covering ice level to keep the final score at 6-1.
