The U15 Stratford Warriors sponsored by @ForeEveryoneGolf faced off against the Cambridge Hawks for their season home opener last night.
Showcasing the new uniform, the Warriors controlled the puck well in the first period and dominated the Hawks. Colten Brenzil opened the scoring early with a great shot fed by linemate Tim Kraayenbrink.
Jake Taylor got the start in net and was tested early by several Hawks, but remained poised and in control. The Warriors held the Hawks to a 1-0 lead at the end of the first.
Amped up by Brenzil’s opening goal, the Warriors pushed hard into the second period, wearing down a now defensive Hawk team. Finley Newton netted his first of the season, assisted by defense Taten Mikel and Cole Hishon. The Warriors have now settled into the game and their cohesiveness on the ice shows well. Closing out the second period, defenseman Mason Bauld slapped a pass towards the net where Owen Bridges was waiting on the doorstep and tipped the shot past the Hawks netminder. The Warriors were now up 3-0 at the end of the second.
Heading into the third, the Warriors aimed to keep the Hawks at bay and maintain the lead. The Hawks pushed the Warriors early in the third and gained a lot of zone time. Netminder Taylor held strong and controlled the crease. The Warriors shifted their game and played more defensively, keeping the Hawks trapped in their zone. The final goal of the game came from a power play opportunity, scored by Kraayenbrink assisted by Casen deGraaf and Ty Wheeler.
The Stratford Warriors defeated the Cambridge Hawks 4-0 in their season home opener with Taylor earning the shutout. Congratulations Warriors, great start to the season!!
The Stratford Warriors continue their regular season play tonight, Oct 2nd at 6:30pm at the Allman Arena where they will host the London Jr Knights Green.
