Last week-end the Stratford Holloway Automotive Minor Atoms competed at the Newmarket Single A tournament. In game 1, Stratford got off to a slow start and lost 9-3 to East Gwillimbury.  Nathaniel Smith scored two goals while Ethan Plotnik notched one.

On Saturday the boys needed to win both games in order to advance to the semis on Sunday.

In their first game they beat Markham 3-1. Andrew Leitch scored two goals, and Nathaniel Smith had a single. Quinn Appel and Ryan Haines each had two assists while Gabe Emms had one. In the afternoon game versus Leaside, the team once again pulled out a 4-3 win. The team got off to a quick start with two goals from Ryan Haines and a power play goal from Kaleb Martin who snuck in from the point. Stratford had a 3-1 lead entering the third but Leaside tied the game with two short-handed goals. Stratford, needing the win, pulled the goalie late in the game on a power-play. Appel scored with 18 seconds left, securing a spot in the semis. Haines and Martin both had two assists while Appel had one.

Stratford faced off against Uxbridge on Sunday morning in the semi-finals. The teams were well-matched and Stratford battled hard, but had difficulty getting the puck past a strong Uxbridge goalie. The final score was 3-1 Uxbridge. Haines scored the lone Stratford goal on a penalty shot.

Overall the team had a very good week-end and should be proud of their efforts. They will look to carry their momentum back into regular season this week-end.
