Scotiabank Major Peewee Rep Stratford Warriors lose back to back games for the first time in almost 2 months - By Erin Heisz
The Scotiabank Major Peewee Rep Warriors played for a home crowd Sunday afternoon at the Allman. Down a goal early in the game, the team never quite seemed to get their momentum back and lost 6-1.

Fans were just getting nicely settled in for the game when the Mustangs got an early goal against us only 45 seconds in. Jared Gould, Cole Meadows and Jake Heinbuch were making good passes and generating scoring chances. Heinbuch made a great steal mid ice and took the puck down to the Mustangs end. Ryan Middegaal was a solid force on defence. Kiefer MacNeil in net stood tall when a Mustang breakaway bore down on him.

Doing their best to tie it up, Ayden Hakkers and Owen Holloway had a play early in the second period where the puck did make it in the net — unfortunately it was called off due to a “kick” being involved. Gould was getting the puck out in the slot to Heinbuch but nothing was getting past the Mustangs goalie. Warriors got two power plays during the second but couldn’t quite get things together for any great chances. Wes Duiker peppered off shots from the point and despite good screening by the forwards, none went in. Hakkers made a slick drop pass to Holloway but the Mustangs defence were like a swarm on any offensive action. Ethan Pearce had a beauty shot off the goalie’s shoulder on a solo rush. Duiker hustled hard on defence to break up Mustangs plays. The Mustangs got a few more goals to end the period 4-0.

Sam Jeffrey fired off shots from the point but still the Mustangs goalie was hot and nothing snuck by. The Mustangs scored again then the Warriors got their first and only penalty of the game. Mustangs scored to make it 6-0. Heinbuch somehow ended up facing a 2 on 1 by himself and did great to force a bad angle shot that MacNeil easily saved! Despite a huge deficit and not much time left the boys did not give up. In fact we got our only goal of the game with 2 minutes left. Hakkers hit the crossbar and Kaden Brame shot it in with an assist going to Holloway as well. The game ended 6-1.

Down 2-0 in the series, the Warriors now face sudden death. The barnacle like tenacity of these 16 boys make this writer believe they aren’t quite done yet!
