SMHA Announces Additional Novice Program for 2015-2016
Submitted By Laurie Cossey on Wed 07 29, 15
NEW for 2015-2016, the Stratford Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) will run 4 Novice competitive programs:

1.     Novice Tier 1 - Head Coach Scott Petrie

2.     Novice Tier 2 - Head Coach Steve Olson

3.     Novice Tier 3 (Alliance West) - Head Coach Brady Blain

4.     Novice Tier 3 (Alliance East) - Head Coach to be announced

The Novice Tier 1 team (players born in 2007) was formed this past spring, however, there are other options for Stratford boys and girls who are 7 and 8 years old who wish to play competitive travel hockey.

Players born in 2007 will be able to try out for the Novice Tier 2 team, and players born in 2008 may try out for our Novice Tier 3 teams.  New this season, SMHA will offer two Novice Tier 3 teams — one will play in the Alliance West (London region) and the other will play in the Alliance East (Kitchener region).  Tryouts for the Novice Tier 2 and both Tier 3 teams will take place in the fall.  Dates and times can be found on the SMHA website (stratfordminorhockey.com).  No pre-registration is required but a pre-registration form must be completed by a parent when signing in at the first tryout.  Additionally, in order for players to be eligible to play representative hockey within the Alliance, one parent must also complete an online "Respect In Sport" course.  Details and a link to the course can be found on the SMHA website.  Tryouts are $15/tryout; there will be 3 tryouts with releases done after the second.  Exhibition games may also be added to increase the number of tryouts.

SMHA welcomes all players who already have skating abilities and a good sense of the game.  Additional "FAQ" information can also be found on the SMHA website.
