Minor Bantam Warriors win Early Bird Tournament
The Cherrey Bus Lines Minor Bantam Warriors took part in the Stratford Early Bird Tournament this past weekend. In round robin play the locals dropped the opener 3-2 to the London Mustangs. The following 3 round robin games they faced Oshawa, Copper Cliff and Riverside all resulting in victories for the fellas and
sending them into the finals on Sunday. The finals was a rematch with the London Mustangs, who to their credit is a very good club with skilled players. The locals found themselves down 2-0 at the end of one period and 2-1 after two. With 12 seconds remaining the Warriors notched the equalizer to send the game into overtime. A 5 minute overtime solved nothing, then a 4 on 4 for 1 minute resulted in the same result. When the game turned to a 3 on 3 for one minute, the Warriors found the net with 18 seconds left in the frame to take the championship. Overall the squad went 4 for 14 on power play, and killed 15 of 17 power plays against. In 5 games through this tournament the Minor Bantam's allowed 8 goals against and recorded 20 goals for.
