U16 Warriors Back In Action!
The Warriors welcomed in the New Year with a standings reset as they started action this past week in the Constellation AA Round.
The Warriors hosted the Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets Jan. 8 to start the second half of the season. Stratford got on the board first with a power play marker from Blair Stokes (A - Ryan McGee, Ryan Gansevles). Woodstock evened the score with a couple minutes remaining in the first as a funny bounce managed it's way past Henry Tuer. The visitors struck again early in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. A costly penalty late in the period would see them give a couple back as Griffin McGregor (A - Nathan Siebert, Colin Schultz) ripped one past to tie it and two minutes later Blair Stokes took a pass from Siebert in the high slot and lasered one past the Woodstock netminder. 3-2 Warriors after two periods. Early in the third the Warriors struck on the PP yet again, Griffin McGregor (A-Siebert) notching his second of the game. A few minutes later Ryan Gansevles stole a pass deep in the Vet's zone and roofed one from the porch to put the home team up by 3 goals. McGregor completed the hat-trick off a pass from Carter Petrie to make it a 6-2 final.
Jan. 12 the Warriors were back in London to face the Jr. Knights Green squad. Stratford opened the scoring early as Dylan Abel found the back of the net from a sharp angle (A-Ryan McGee). Midway through the period the Knights would answer on the power play to even the score at 1-1. Goaltender Brody Borszcz turned away a handful of great chances from the home team to keep the score level for the first 10 minutes of the second period. The Knights knocked in a pair of goals late in the period to take a two goal lead heading into the second intermission. Abel tipped in a shot from Griffin McGregor early in the third to pull the team to within a goal but London answered quickly and went back up 4-2. Dawson White scored on a rebound off of a Liam Ollson shot (A - Z. Schultz, Ollson) to make it a one goal margin again. A back and forth middle of the period ended with London capitalizing on a PP to go up 5-3. Stratford got a late power play and pulled the goalie to work a 6 on 4 advantage and it paid off as McGee (A - McGregor, Gansevles) scored on a rebound to make it 5-4 with 2 minutes left. Stratford kept firing but the Knights held strong and scored an empty net goal to seal the game. Final Score - London 6, Stratford 4.
