Warriors fall in the Semi finals in Cambridge
The Stratford Best Western/Parlour MD Warriors had high expectations headed into the weekend at the Cambridge Festival of friends tournament but fell a little short of there goal losing in the semi finals to eventual champion Oakville Senators 4 -1 on Sunday morning. The lone Stratford goal was scored by Riley Higgins and assisted by Nathan Cook and Aaron Skinner. The Warriors started the tournament strong with a win Friday morning over the same Oakville Senators with a 5 - 3 victory.
Brett Stelmachuk started the scoring assisted by Jeremi Carman. Sam Turner scored the second stratford goal assisted by Noah Trudgeon and Luke McCarroll. Stelmachuk scored his second of the game from Higgins and Declan Rintoul. Jordan Tessmer scored the fourth and fifth markers assisted by Liam Taylor and Rintoul.
Stratford continued the strong play on Friday afternoon with an 11 - 2 trouncing of the Brampton Sharpshooters Turner and Taylor led the way with a hat trick each. Stelmachuck and Trudgeon had a pair each along with an assist. Jacob Taylor had a goal and two assists with single assists from Tyler Anderson, Tessmer, Cassone, Carman and Luke McCarroll. Stratford were a little too positive after scoring 16 goals in two games Friday and found themselves in trouble on Saturday tying Cambridge 2 - 2 in the afternoon with goals from Tessmer in the second and Turner with 16 seconds left in the game to tie it. Both goals were assisted by Sean Petrie. Saturday evening the Warriors were in the early Christmas spirit and handed the Kitchener Ranger Blue a 4 - 0 gift which set up the meeting sunday morning with Oakville. Jeremy Hill and Jared James played well in the tournament. A learning experience going forward for the young Warriors.
