Stratford Hockey Training Above minor novice Tier 3 Warriors fell 2-1 to the Clarington Thunder in the championship game of the Winterhawks Classic in Milton on Sunday.

Ethan Martin had the lone goal in the loss on an assist from Kaden Brame.

Stratford opened the tournament on Thursday with a 4-2 loss to Clarington. Jonas Schmidt led the scoring with a goal and an assist, while Martin added the other goal and Daniel Van Straaten added an assist.

On Friday the Warriors skated to a 2-1 win over the Streetsville Tigers. Schmidt and Van Straaten had a goal apiece, with assists coming from Jared Gould, Cole Meadows, and Brigitte Britton.

The Warriors bested the Milton Winterhawks 5-1 Saturday morning in a strong team outing. Tyson Talsma, Wesley Duiker Britton, Schmidt, and VanStraaten each had a goal, with helpers from Jack Zehr, Avery Thurston, Gould, Schmidt, and Van Straaten.

In their second game on Saturday, Stratford worked for a 3-1 win over the Brantford 99's in the semifinals. Cole Meadows, Zehr, and Van Straaten contributed goals. Owen Holloway supplied two assists, and Duiker added a single in the win.

Goalie James Hopper exhibited tremendous performances in net throughout the tournament, supported by a solid defensive corps, and a strong passing game generated by the entire team.
