The Stratford Best Western The Parlour Warriors were eliminated from the Alliance West Peewee MD playdowns this past weekend, losing by scores of 4-1 and 4-3 to the Sarnia Jr. Sting in their four point semi final series.
Stratford came out strong but faltered in the series opener Friday night in Sarnia, losing 4-1. The Warriors were out worked by the defending champs, and could not find a response to the aggressive play of Sarnia. Marcus Nicholson scored the lone Stratford goal with Eric Van Nes assisting.
The Warriors came out with a much stronger performance Saturday at the Allman Arena, but a late power play goal by Sarnia with 27 seconds remaining ended the playoff run for Stratford. Offensively, Blake Strickland and Josh Smith led the way with a goal and assist each. Caelen Eveleigh scored the third Stratford goal with Andrew Ivey and Eric Van Nes picking up assists. Jarod Fleming played well in goal for Stratford, including a stop on a Sarnia penalty shot.
Despite the elimination, Stratford has qualified for the Tier 2 MD Championships April 11-13 in St. Catharine's.
