U16 Warriors Hit The Road!
The Warriors made the short trip to London for a mid week tilt against the London Jr. Knights White.
With both teams sitting tied atop the Constellation standings, this game was shaping up to be a battle. The Warriors came out firing on all cylinders, dominating play throughout the first period. Their energy would be rewarded six minutes in as Carter Petrie muscled his way through two defenders to pounce on a rebound and blast it past the London goalkeeper - Ryan Gansevles and Blake Hodgson with the assists. A few excellent chances on the PP from Dylan Abel and Gansevles went unrewarded but Stratford held solid defensively with call ups Casen DeGraff and Tim Kraayenbrink filling in for some injured Warriors. 1-0 Stratford at the first intermission.
An early second period penalty had the Warriors on the PK and London capitalized, sliding one past Brody Borszcz to tie the game up at one goal a-piece. Both teams traded rushes back and forth throughout the period but great backcheck and defensive play kept the score knotted at 1. With two minutes left in the period, Stratford took advantage of a loose puck out front and Ryan McGee sent one to the roof of the net in tight - assists to Petrie and Gansevles. 2-1 Stratford at the flood.
Some early pressure from the Warriors had the Knights on their heels early but the momentum would turn as Stratford found themselves on the PK as a result of a 5 min. major penalty. Borszcz stood strong in goal making a few highlight reel saves and the team followed his lead and successfully killed the penalty. The Warriors kept pucks deep after that and managed to hold on to take the win. Final score - Stratford 2, London 1.
