OCTOBER 9, 12 AND 19, 2010 GAMES
INSURANCE CENTRAL Minor PeeWee MD’s Covering All the Bases

In the 3 most recent games played by the INSURANCE CENTRAL Minor PeeWee MD’s, the team covered all its bases, coming away with a tie, a loss and a win, leaving its early season record at 2 wins, a tie and a loss.

Most recently, Chase Windsor paced the team to a 3 -1 win over the Sarnia Jr. Sting, it what could best be described as a penalty filed affair. A total of 13 minor penalties were handed down, including 10 to the Sting.

Windsor scored once in the 1st (Anthony Gioia, Nathan Ferguson) and once in the 2nd (Gioia), giving the Warriors all the scoring they would need. Cole McKay (Steven Tuer, Noah Patton) rounded out the home team scoring early in the 3rd, with the Sting breaking the shut-out bid with just over 2 minutes remaining.

October 12th saw a heart-breaking loss for the team, as they fell 4 – 3 to the 1ST place Oakridge Aeros. This seesaw game had the Aeros taking an early 1st period lead before Peter Williams (Cole McKay, Connor Franke) tied the game. The tie was short-lived however as Oakridge closed the period up 2-1. They stretched the lead to 2 goals late in the 2nd however a good individual effort by Liam Westman saw the 2nd period end 3-2 in favour of the visitors.

End to end action in the 3rd period resulted in a number of great scoring opportunities for both teams. Windsor (Gioia, Ferguson) appeared to salvage a tie for the Warriors when he scored off a scramble with just under 4 minutes remaining however, a Warriors’ penalty with just over 2 minutes remaining set the stage for a disappointing ending to the game. Despite a valiant penalty killing effort, most notably by goaltender Jeremy Wickenheiser, the Aero’s scored the go-ahead marker with 26 seconds remaining.

A tight match on October 9th against West London ended in a 3 – 3 tie, highlighting the “never-say-die” attitude of this year’s Warriors’ squad. Stratford was up 2-1 at the end of the 1st period on unassisted, seeing-eye goals by Michael Cossey and Jacob Ney, only to see their lead evaporate with London scoring singles in the second and, early in the 3rd. Down 3 -2, and ready to put a 6th attacker on the ice, Cossey (Simon Northmore) directed a back-hander towards the net that eluded the West London goal-keeper.

Goaltenders Jacob Ford and Wickenheiser split all 3 games and played with great confidence throughout.

The team’s next game is October 26th against the as-yet undefeated London Bandits Orange. At press time, good seats were still available.
