The Scotiabank Peewee Warriors opened their season Monday
night against the London Bandits at Dufferin Arena. Although it was the first
game of the season, the warriors showed poise and control throughout the game
collapsing defensively and protecting their zone well, limiting quality scoring
chances for the opposition.
Mitch Watt was strong between the pipes for Stratford conceding only 1 goal on a 5-3 powerplay for the Bandits, and Stratford was able to rally for a 4-1 victory. After a scoreless opening period the Warriors found themselves in penalty trouble several times throughout the middle frame eventually giving up the game’s first goal. Persistence by the Warriors and a strong fore-check provided a swing in momentum after the Warriors evened the game at 1 on a great give and go passing play by Zach Otto and finished by Max Britton.
Britton would add one more for the Warriors, while Michael Messerschmidt and Eric Gibb added singles to seal the victory. Overall it was a strong game to start the season, and a complete team effort that the Warriors will look to build on moving forward.
