The
Stratford Scotiabank Peewee Warriors played the Brantford 99er's Saturday on
Warrior day. It would prove to be a physical, emotional hockey game with both
teams competing hard until the final buzzer
Stratford opened the scoring in the first period when Michael Messerschmidt buried a low wrist shot from the boards, converting on an excellent breakout pass from Rienk Vanderploeg. It didn't take long though for the visitor's to respond and eventually jump out to a 2-1 lead at the end of the first frame. Penalties for both teams led to lots of scoring chances in the middle frame, with Mitch Watt and the entire defense protecting the net brilliantly. The score was unchanged after 2, and the Warriors found themselves down one heading to the final frame. It was midway through when Brantford added to their lead and looked to take control up 3-1. Good discipline and a hard working mentality left Stratford with chances, and it was Brayden Carnegie finishing some excellent passing on back to back power play goals. The final score was 3-3.
