The
Scotia Bank Major Peewee Warriors travelled to Sarnia on Monday night for a
game against the Jr. Sting
It was a spirited affair and both teams played physical hockey. Stratford spotted Sarnia a 2-0 lead at the halfway point of the game, but battled back to draw even by the final buzzer. Special teams were important in the contest as Stratford was able to bury two power play goals for the second game in a row and complete a third period comeback. It was line of Haydn Shantz, Dean Jackson and Sam Davey generating all of the offence, with Shantz scoring first and Dean Jackson second on back-to-back power play opportunities. Eric Gibb was dangerous firing shots from the point, and Stratford had several opportunities to put the game away but was unable to convert. Dean Simons, Sam Wyatt, Andrew Maguire, Rienk Vanderploeg, Eric Gibb, and Cameron Hanson were excellent on the penalty kills late in the game holding Sarnia to the outside and limiting scoring chances. Danny Pacheco was steady in goal picking up the tie. It was the beginning of a 5-game-7-night week for the Warriors who look to continue their solid play Wednesday at home against Waterloo.
