Game Summary
On Saturday, the Stratford Holloway Automotive Minor Atom rep team traveled to St. Thomas to battle the Jr. Stars.
The Warriors started the game with good pressure in the St. Thomas zone and controlled much of the play. However, the Jr. Stars capitalized on some miscues by the Warriors and were able to net two goals in the final two minutes of the period. The Jr. Stars added another goal to grab a 3-0 lead just two minutes into the middle frame. From there, the Warriors answered with 2 goals off of some good offensive pressure and passing plays, but St. Thomas added one more to stake a 4-2 lead heading into the 3rd period. The Warriors scored first in the final period to get within one, but less than a minute later the Jr. Stars restored their 2 goal lead. St. Thomas added another into the empty net to make the final 6-3.
The forwards worked the offensive boards very well and controlled the play below the hashmarks in the St. Thomas zone. Offensive cycling, making heads up passes to open players (forwards and defensemen), and applying strong back pressure have been areas of focus for the team recently and the players are responding well in both game and practice situations.
