Week in Review - By Erin Heisz
The Hiller Realty Stratford Minor Peewee Rep Warriors headed to Kitchener on Thursday evening to face the Kitchener Jr Rangers Blue team.

Kiefer MacNeil was in net for the Warriors.  The first period started out with Kitchener getting some great shots on net.  They scored twice and were up 2-0 early on.   The rest of the period saw back and forth play between the two teams.

Sam Jeffrey tried to get the offence fired up in the second period with good puck movement down the ice.  Kaden Brame got robbed on a great shot on goal after a nice pass from Owen Holloway.  Thomas Sheldon was doing a good job of getting the puck to the forwards during the entire second period.  MacNeil was making a lot of good saves to keep the Warriors in the game.   Late in the period a penalty was called on Stratford.  Holloway, Brame, Aidan Benton and Jared Gould worked hard to kill the penalty.  Danny Van Straaten had a breakaway right after the penalty ended and took a shot on net.  Jeffrey made a shot just wide to end the period.

Down by 2 goals to the second place Rangers, the Warriors had their work cut out for them.  Luke Zorgdrager skated hard to stop a 2 on 1 by the Rangers.  MacNeil had a great save on another Rangers breakaway to keep it 2-0.   A few more shots and save for MacNeil until a rebound finally went in to make it 3-0.  Cole Meadows made a pass in the Rangers end to Van Straaten who sent in flying off the post.  The final score was 5-0 for Kitchener.

January 22nd vs Cambridge Hawks

The Hiller Realty Stratford Minor Peewee Rep Warriors were in action Sunday evening at the Preston Memorial Arena against the Cambridge Hawks.

The game started quick with Luke Heisz getting the puck off of a scrambled faceoff and taking it down for a shot that the Hawks goalie caught in his glove.   Wes Duiker moved fast to stop a 3 on 1 and Lucas Jacklin in net made a save off the forced shot.  Sam Jeffrey got it down to Jared Gould for a chance.  Jake Heinbuch kept it in well and the Warriors kept up the pressure.  Cambridge got the puck and swept down the ice making a shot from the circle to go in top right shelf.  The Warriors got a penalty soon after for tripping on a Hawks rush.  Kaden Brame, Colton Gibson and Jacklin had solid efforts in killing the penalty off.  Heisz was making some great tape to tape passes to the forwards and moving the puck up the ice.  Jacklin made a diving save onto the puck out front and also a slick poke to send the puck flying up the ice.  Cambridge got another one in and the first period ended 2-0.

The Warriors dominated most of the play in the second period.  Early on Danny Van Straaten got a goal with passes from his teammates Kaden Brame and Owen Holloway.  The score was 2-1.  Avery Thurston stopped a 2 on 1 but the Hawks came back soon after and scored again.  Van Straaten, Brame and Luke Zorgdrager kept on the offensive pressure and kept peppering shots off.  It felt like the Warriors were on a power play.  Heinbuch had some nice shots on net.  The Hawks got it into our end for a few seconds and had a solid shot that Jacklin deflected off the end of his stick.  Gibson battled hard against the boards and Thurston fired off a shot.  Jeffrey shot on net and then kept it in with some good positioning.  Duiker had a timely scoop of the puck from in front of the net to save a goal.  Van Straaten and Holloway both took hard shots at the end of the period but nothing was getting through.  The period ended with Hawks up 4-1.

Aidan Benton’s strong backchecking led off the third period.  Gould took the puck up to the Hawks end and passed to Heinbuch.  Heinbuch sent it over to Thomas Sheldon in the slot who sent it home!  Warriors were battling back. Benton turned up the offensive energy and helped in the play for the next goal where Cole Meadows got it to Hayden White-Roy to score.  The Warriors were within one goal, score 4-3.  Benton was making excellent passes down in the Hawks end and even had some fancy stickhandling moves in front of their net.  Brame had a shot right off the end of the goalie’s stick.  The Warriors did not give up and kept the shots going right until the end. The final score was 6-3 for the Hawks.
