Written by:  Bill Boon
The Stratford A.J. Jackson Construction Minor Atom MD Warriors played in the 41st Annual Wayne Gretzky Tournament in Brantford last week. The Warriors opened against the Kitchener Rangers and played to a well earned 3-3 tie. Jake Emerson scored two goals and added an assist with Mac Starkebaum adding the single marker. Josh Smith picked up two assists in the tie. The Warriors pulled their goalie and scored with less than one second left on the clock to tie the game. Defensemen Kobe Robinson, Isaac Lobsinger and Eric Van Nes were very strong defensively for the Warriors.  In Game 2 against the Hamilton Ice Cats, the Warriors pulled ahead 2-0 on goals from Dominic Boon and Andrew Ivey, but couldn’t hold the lead and lost 5-2.

The line of Austin Taylor, Keagan Goforth and Patrick McIsaac generated many scoring chances, but couldn’t find the back of the net. In a very exciting Game 3, the Warriors defeated the North London Nationals 2-1.  Dominic Boon and Ryan Lott each had a goal and an assist. Stratford goalie Liam McCann was spectacular in net in recording the win. Josh Bossence and Kiran Wotherspoon were solid defensively in limiting North London’s scoring chances. In Game 4, the Warriors fell to eventual tournament champions Hamilton Tigers 7-1 in a very hard fought and physical game. Brett Maguire scored the lone Warrior goal with Josh Smith picking up the assist.
