Peewee MDs win St. Mary's Rock Tournament
The Stratford Parlour Best Western PeeWee Md's competed in the St.Mary’s Rock hockey tournament on the weekend. They started the weekend playing the host, St.Mary’s.  Xavier Rutherford stood tall between the pipes and was the difference in the hockey game making 28 saves for the shut out. Ryan Carruthers’ beautiful pass to Mathieu Carmen sent him in all alone and he made no mistake for a 1-0 Warrior lead. The game got really chippy after the goal with lots of open ice hitting and that seemed to spark Stratford as Parker Wamboldt added some insurance assisted by Mac Rankin and James Drake. That’s all the scoring Rutherford needed as he took over the game and shut the door the rest of the way.

Stratford then played Port Hope.  Hard work finally paid off as the Warriors earn a 6-0 victory.  Kaylb McComb led the offense with a goal and 3 assists. Carruthers had a goal and an assist, Carman, Rankin, Leam Hughes, Beckett Mulder, his first as a warrior, rounded out the scoring. Nick Ruttan added 3 helpers and Mulder and Evan Roulston had 1 each.  Kayden Buck played well in goal to earn the shut out.

Stratford came out flying in a 2-0 win over St.Thomas Stars.  Wamboldt and McComb provided the scoring; Hughes and Mulder had assists.  The Warriors out shot the Stars 42-10 but a hot goalie kept the score close.  Rutherford earned his second shut out of the tournament.

The win advanced Stratford to the semi-finals against New Hamburg. The boys came out flat and found themselves down 3-1 early in the 2nd.   A goalie change seemed to help the boys find there legs as Stratford scored the next 3 goals to take the lead.  A lead they would never give up as they defeated New Hamburg 4-3.  Roulston, Carruthers, Hughes and Drake had the goals.  Helpers going to Eric Brubacher, Adam Skinner, Roulston, Wamboldt and Ruttan.  Buck and Rutherford played well in goal.

That set up  the final with Hespeler who came out on a mission and after the first, had the Warriors down 3-0.  Wamboldt scored early in the second and that gave the boys some jump as 35 seconds later, McComb would score his first of the game with the assist going to Drake.  Hespeler wasn't done as they would score again to take a 2 goal lead heading into the third.  It was all Stratford from then on as Drake would find the back of the net with helpers going to Hughes and Wamboldt.  With time running out and Stratford dominating the play, it forced Hespeler to take a penalty with 2:22 left in the game.  On the power play, and time running out, a shot from the point by Rankin would hit a Hespeler stick that would send the puck straight up in the air.  McComb was standing in front of the net where the puck would bounce off the top of his head, over the Hespeler goalie and into the net tying the game with 1:31 left and sending the game into overtime.  Overtime decided nothing so the game went into a shoot out.Wamboldt and Carman would miss their shots as Rutherford stopped all 3 he faced.  Roulston, the final shooter for Stratford, made no mistake, bar down glove side to send Stratford to victory.
