Atoms Roll Over Cambridge
The Perth Auto Dismantler Atoms carried their determined play from the Silver Stick over the week end to roll over the Cambridge Hawks 8-5 missing three regulars on Thursday night.
Mitch LaFay opened the scoring firing a high wrist shot over the Hawks goalkeeper's glove from Aly McLeod. Bryce Lee beat the goalie with a hard shot from the point on a feed from Adam Windsor and LaFay potted a rebound off a Tyler Pogson drive to increase the lead to three. Jared Lesouder took an Alex Cassone feed and walked in to beat the goalie low blocker to extend the lead to 4-0. After Cambridge scored twice, LaFay snapped his third goal of the night over a sprawling Hawks goalie from Cassone to close out the second period with a 5-2 lead. As fatigue began to set in, Cambridge closed the gap to 5-4 but Adam Monteith out-muscled the defence a flew in to score a short handed goal to turn the tide. Stratford salted the win away when Aly McLeod fired a shot home from LaFay and Windsor potted from in close from Kaden Eybergen. Ryan Bell snuffed any Cambridge hope when he stopped a penalty shot with less than a minute to play. Cohen Lesouder and call-up Connor Hill battled hard on defence all night in the winning effort.
