Bested by the Burlington Bulldogs - By Erin Heisz
The Scotiabank Major Peewee Rep Warriors were matched up against both Bulldogs teams this weekend. Both games were close but ended in losses to put the two Burlington teams on top of the standings.

Warriors vs Burlington Bulldogs White

The Scotiabank Major Peewee Rep Warriors travelled to Burlington to play the Bulldogs White team. Action started early with Liam Parsons in net making a quick save. Danny Van Straaten took the puck up and shot from the corner and Owen Holloway redirected it in to give us a 1-0 lead! Luke Zorgdrager made a great steal in the slot and Zach Richardson took it up for a good scoring chance. Jared Gould and Kaden Brame were making amazing tape to tape passes across ice to generate offense. Parsons made a number of saves but the Burlington pressure continued and they tied it up 1-1.

Ryan Middegaal was catching on to the fact that Burlington were not heavy on the passing and played a 2 on 1 beautifully. Parsons made an outstanding splits save and fans cheered! Van Straaten and Holloway were trying to repeat their glory from the 1st period but got stopped. A minute later Gould and Cole Meadows were behind the net and collected assists by getting the puck to Brame who shot top corner to give us the lead 2-1! Bulldogs didn’t let that sit long and tied it up quickly. Parsons made a barrage of saves. There was a scrum behind the net that left a Warrior injured and 3 boys in the box. It was a confusion of short handed play for the rest of the period for both teams on and off. The period ended 3-2 for the Bulldogs.

The third period continued with multiple penalties for both teams. Brame and Gould were putting big pressure on during the power plays. Zorgdrager and Middegaal were peppering shots off from the point but also in great position to stop any action from the Bulldogs. In the end we lost, 4-2.

Warriors vs Burlington Bulldogs Red

The Scotiabank Major Peewee Rep Warriors faced off against the Burlington Bulldogs Red at the Allman on Sunday afternoon. Wes Duiker got a shot on net 10 seconds in to start the game. Luke Heisz played a 3 on 1 well to force a bad angle shot that Kiefer MacNeil in net stopped easily. Zach Richardson had a great shot that the goalie baubled and almost got us on the board. The PK line came out and dominated. MacNeil had their back and stopped multiple shots. Danny Van Straaten shot and drew a penalty. Sam Jeffrey took a slapper from the point and it went on a wonky angle off a skate but the Bulldogs goalie somehow pulled off a save. Jeffrey and Duiker were passing it point to point to get set up but this goalie was hot. MacNeil was showing his stuff too and made 3 saves in a row. We had a 4 on 4 for a little while and Jake Heinbuch was in great position to block shots from their point. Ethan Pearce shot and it almost slipped right in past the goalie but no red light.

Heisz made a great interception in our slot and sent it out to Heinbuch. Heinbuch passed to Pearce who took it up and shot it in! Warriors up 1-0. The Red Bulldogs were just like their brother team and didn’t let us have the lead for long, score quickly became 2-1 for them. The Burlington goalie robbed Van Straaten of a point from a rush then forehand to backhand shot and again a miracle save. Heisz blocked another odd man rush. MacNeil made a pad save then caught the rebound in a glove save. Heinbuch was firing shots on net. Jeffrey deaked out the Bulldogs defence to get a shot on net. What we all thought were coincidental minors were called and fans were confused as the play ensued as a 5 on 4. The PK lines showed grim determination and not a shot was fired on MacNeil. Ayden Hakkers got the puck and made a magical pass to Van Straaten who put the puck to the back of the net!

The third period started with a score of 2-2 but we got down a goal again just a minute in. Duiker used his speed and reach to stop a 3 on 1 to keep the gap small. Hakkers and Van Straaten were making fans cheer with their beauty passes as they tried to take the lead. MacNeil made double digit saves to give the boys a chance. Warriors got a too many men on the ice penalty and killed it well. Another Warriors penalty and we pulled our goalie to try to tie it up. Score ended 4-2. Shake it off boys, chins up and next weekend is yours!
