Warrior Tournament 2018
It was a tough loss September 22, at the Gretzky Center last weekend. in Brantford, The team lost in a close game, with a final score of 3-1. Caden Ollson scored the single goal in the first period, which was assisted by Jake Schultz. Penalties were tied at 3 a piece for each team. The Warriors worked as a team on defensive play and kept the puck away from and out of the net the entire third period! It was a great display of hockey at the cherished Gretzy Arena!

This weekend in Stratford was the Annual “ Jr.Warriors Weekend”, Tournament. Games were held in Stratford Rinks as well as in Milverton and St. Marys. The Minor Atom Rep team, sponsored by Holloway Automotive Supply Ltd., had an early start to their first tournament of the season. The first game for the Minor Atom Rep Team, was against St. Thomas Stars, on Friday, September 28, 2018. An early 8:00 a.m. game had the boys battling it out for a win. It was a close game, with a loss of 2-1. Our single goal was scored by teammates Will Pepper, assisted by Reid Morris and Owen Blackburn. A few penalty minutes were lit on the board in the final periods, when the boys were attempting to get the puck in the net for a tie.
The Second game versus the Amhersburg Stars, took place on Friday afternoon. Amhersburg lead the scoring in the first period with a 3 goal lead, but Stratford had a few pucks in the net the second period. First Goal was scored by Piers Murray, assisted by Reid Morris. The second puck in the next was by Nate Van Bakel, assisted by Rowan Green and Tyler Jackson. Next goal was netted by Van Bakel. Final goal was shot by Tyler Jackson and assisted by Will Pepper and Van Bakel. Amherstburg lead in penalty minutes. Quinn Smith battled between the pipes, but the final score was a loss of 7- 4.
The Third game of the tourney had the Warriors face off against The Brantford 99ers on Saturday, September 29. Brantford lit the scoreboard first, in the second period to grab 3 goals. Stratford followed in the third period, fighting hard to get two goal. Evan Hughs scored the first goal, assisted by Ezra Wreford and Caellum Parsons. The second goal was slipped in by Jake Schultz, assisted by forward linesmate Caden Ollson. The Warriors fought back in the third period to snag 2 goals, but ran out of time in the end to get the tie. Stratford pulled their goalie near the end of the game to rally to get the puck between the pipes. It was an outstanding game for Carter Keating, stopping several breakaways by the 99ers towards his net. Final score was 3-2, but the Warriors demonstrated progress and growing skills as a team!
The Final game for the Warrior Minor Atom Reps, was played against the Cambridge Winterhawks on Saturday afternoon.  Piers Murray sniped first goal at 3 minute mark, assisted by Owen Blackburn! The boys played a strong, offensive first period.Goalie Quinn Smith, played a defensive game against the Winterhawks. The Minor Atoms displayed teamwork, passing and setting up each other in front of the Winterhawk’s net. Evan Hughs had a zinger off the post, among the many other shots from various team members - battling to get one into the net. Strong defensive play on the blue line by Graedon Smith kept the opposition’s scoring to a minimum. At a score oft 2-1, and with a few minutes left in the third period, coaches pulled the goalie for the last hustle in front of the Winterhawk’s net. Score remained 2-1 for Cambridge at the buzzer.Unfortunately, our losses put us in 5th place missing our chance at any finals. The team showed a respectable team effort during this weekends tournament, being just shy a goal most games. We can look forward to watching their improvements and progress this season. Thank you to all of our coaches for sharing their leadership with the boys this weekend!
Next game action will be held in London, next Saturday at 4:oo pm against the Jr. Mustangs Purple, at Medway Arena.
