The ‘07 Major Peewee Rep team, sponsored by Scotiabank grabbed one win and one loss in their final weekend play of the year.
Saturday night the boys played host to the Cambridge Hawks and skated away with a 3-1 win. Despite being short handed on the blue line Zach Schultz, Austin Musselman, Blake Hodgson and Ryan Gansevles held off the Hawks with strong back checking, along with a solid work in the net from Zack Irvin. Mid-way through the first Carter Petrie opened the scoring off a feed from Colin Schultz. In the second C.Schultz netted another one for Stratford, assisted by Blair Stokes. Stratford went up 3-0 in the third with a goal from Stokes, assisted by Petrie. The Hawks managed to slide one in, but Stratford took the W 3-1.
In their final game of 2019, Stratford batted the St. Thomas Jr Stars Sunday afternoon. Always a spirited battle, this game was no exception with more penalties on the scoresheet than goals. St. Thomas struck first stealing one from Irvin, but Irvin came up big early in the second shutting down a breakaway opportunity for the Stars. Late in the second with St. Thomas up 2-0, Stratford got on the board with a bullet from Stokes, assisted by C. Schultz and Petrie. Early action in the third saw Gansevles fire in a rebound from Petrie to tie the game 2-2. Unfortunately, St. Thomas took advantage of power play opportunities and took the game 4-2.
