Weekly Update by Colin Humphrey
On Tuesday night at Duff Gardens, Stratford Warrior’s Minor Bantam squad hosted the GHLA Jr Mustangs (white) for an all important game for Stratford.  From the moment the puck dropped the Warriors were relentless, back checking and forechecking aggressively to maintain possession.

In the first period Ben Fizell took a direct pass from Jericho McNichol and Fizell did not hesitate to bury the puck in the Mustangs net to start the scoring.  A couple loose pucks in front of Stratford’s net would make it in Stratford net and the Warriors would fall behind until Nater Framst found Dylan Fischer who sniped one by the Mustangs goalie to tie up 2-2.  In the Second period both teams battled back and forth and both goalies made several key saves for their teams but when Dylan Fischer took a feed from Mark Pyzowski he found an open spot in the Mustang’s net to get the go-ahead goal.  The final frame of the tilt got a little chippy but Stratford stayed focused as Mark Pyzowski fed a shot to Jackson Campbell who rang one off the post and in for the Warriors 4th goal of the night.  A couple shifts later Campbell would feed the puck to Pyzowski who unloaded a shot to make it a 5-3 win for the Warriors.  Stratford’s defence was on point only allowing 20 shots on net and forwards keeping the pressure on London with 25 shots, Jesse Merkel was stellar between pipes making some fantastic saves.  Assists on goals were Mark Pyzowski (2), Jericho McNichol, Owen Gaylor, Beckham McLeod.

The Warriors hit the road on Saturday headed for Burlington to face off against the Jr Cougars (white) and play the final game of the regular season schedule.  Coming off a big win earlier in the week the Warriors were pumped and ready to play another good game.  Stratford cycled the puck well and maintained possession for a better part of the game.  After several shots on goal in the first period it was Nathan Gibb who made a rush and sniped Stratford’s first goal of the game. The Warriors and Jr Cougars would battle back & forth, the Cougars fought off several consecutive penalties in the 2nd but when back to full strength Colten Kuepfer from the point would find the back of the net to make it a 2-0 game.  The Warriors kept working hard and pressuring the Burlington goalie and another shot from the point would get tipped in by Jackson Campbell for Stratford’s 3rd of the afternoon.  With Stratford and Burlington each with a player in the time out box and 4 on 4 action happening, Cole Humphrey took a pass and fired a shot that went post-in to end the game a 4-0 win.  Stratford made it easy on goalie Koen Gerber only allowing 2 shots on him all game, Koen controlled the puck at the posts stopping the play for some very advantageous face offs.  The Burlington goalie kept his team in the game saving a large portion of the 51 shots that Stratford pelted him with.  Assists of goals were Jericho McNichol, Quinn Appel, Colten Kuepfer, Mark Pyzowski and Jackson Campbell.

Stratford now enters a playdown series with the Brantford 99ers this coming weekend..
