The Neumeister Motors Tier2 Novice Warriors opened their season this past weekend with three games.  With back to back exhibition games against Waterloo to start the weekend, Stratford traveled to Waterloo Friday night losing a hard fought battle 6-1.  Despite it being the teams first game, they put forth a great effort getting used to playing together.  Waterloo opened the scoring early in the game, but Mason Bauld, playing center for the first time, answered back on a break away late in the first period assisted by Finley Newton and Oscar Seip.

Stratford put pressure on Waterloo many times, however couldn’t find the back of the net.  Waterloo travelled early the next morning into Stratford to face the Warriors once again.  Waterloo again opened the scoring early in the game beating goalkeeper Brock Herman.  Stratford kept fighting hard throughout the game but was shutout by Waterloo’s goalie.  Outstanding work on the blue-line from Henry Flanagan helped limit the Waterloo attack on goalie Jake Taylor.  The offensive line of Evan White-Roy, Harrison Robinet, and Finley Newton had many chances throughout the game and kept the Waterloo goalie active.  Sunday afternoon brought the Warriors first league game. Stratford and Sarnia were fighting a hard fought battle back and forth until Sarnia opened the scoring late in the first period.  Sarnia came out fighting in the second period with 5 unanswered goals before Stratford could get on the board.  Lots of commotion in front of Sarnia’s net kept everyone hoping until Henry Flanagan got off a shot scoring late in the second period.  The Warriors continued the attack, but the Sting netminder made some great saves and held Stratford back.  Warriors got back in the game when Andrew Davis pushed past Sarnia defense and found the back of the net.  Just 12 seconds later, Davis on a breakaway, was pulled down in front of the net and was awarded a penalty shot.  He made no mistake with his shot firing it past Sarnia’s goalie.  Stratford kept pushing, however came up short with a 3-8 final score.  Liam Benton, Rem Hruden and and Nash McIlory put forth a strong effort throughout the game.  Stratford’s next action is Warrior Day, Saturday October 1st as they host the Oakridge Aeros 2 @10:15 am Molson Arena.
