The Holloway Automotive Minor Atom Rep Warriors picked up a win and a loss over the weekend.
On Dec 18 the Warriors travelled to St. Thomas to take on the Stars for a repeat showdown. With the boys looking to improve their play from the previous weekend they came out strong. Netminder Brenden Sippel was tested with end to end action throughout the game and held the Stars off the boards until early in the second when they slid one in. Moments later on the power play Aaron Green fired one from the point and Colin Slattery tipped it in to tie the game. St. Thomas nabbed their second on a breakaway but Blair Stokes fought back on a relentless shift going five hole and once again tying the game 2-2. Heading into the third Slattery netted his second of the game to give the Warriors a brief lead. Unfortunately, St. Thomas scored on a rush and capitalized on a Stratford penalty late in the game to take the win 4-3.
Monday night saw Stratford take the short trip down the road to St. Mary’s to face the Rock Atom team in an exhibition tilt. Call up Ryan McGill got the start in net and saw some early shots with some big saves. Carter Petrie began the scoring early in the first, but they answered back with three of their own to take a 3-1 lead. Grady Murphy put Stratford back in it to close the first period 3-2. Brenden Sippel took over the duties between the pipes and was also tested by the Rock snipers. St. Mary’s nabbed their 4th goal, but Colin Slattery brought the Warriors within one, making it 4-3. Again, St. Mary’s took a two goal lead but a tenacious Stratford team did not give up. Slattery scored three more to help Stratford to win 6-5 with moments left in the game.
The Warriors travel to London on Dec 22 to face off against the London Junior Knights White, puck drops at 6:30pm.
