Written by Dave Graff. The SMHA Cherry Bus Lines minor bantam rep team split a
pair of Alliance minor hockey league games on the weekend, keeping their record
at the 500 level at 2-2.
Saturday at the rec centre the home town Warriors were on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision with the Kitchener Blue Rangers despite outshooting the visitors 27-12. Patrick Holloway opened the scoring on a nifty deke part way through period one with Caleb Musselman and Zach Carman drawing assists. The Rangers kept chipping away and despite some fine saves by Tallyn Soper in the Warrior goal, the visitors scored the only other two goals in this one with the Ranger tender foiling the Warriors on numerous great chances throughout the third period.
The Warriors rebounded with what might have been their best effort yet in the young Alliance season beating a solid London Mustang White team 3-0. Carter Musselman opened the scoring with a hard slap shot tally after being sent up ice on a nice feed from Caelan Trupp. A few minutes later while on the power play Patrick Holloway sent a nice feed to Musselman out front where he calmly deposited his second marker to double the visitors lead. Caleb Musselman also assisted. The Warriors closed out the scoring on an abbreviated five on three power play in the third period when Brady Ballantyne netted a rebound off of a fine shot from the point from Jack Whitehead. Maverick Mulder started the play from the right point. Nolan Traynor stopped 14 Mustang shots turning his second consecutive solid effort of the young season into his first shutout.
