The Minor Pewee MD All Equip Repair & Service Jr. Warriors participated in the Ace Bailey Memorial Tournament in Stoney Creek this past weekend.

Game #1 vs. Markham Waxers Blue

The Jr. Warriors were first on the board with Logan Hallock weaving threw the Waxers, throwing the puck up behind the goalie, bar down. With a 4 on 4, Zach Scrimgeour worked the boards breaking away from the Waxers and letting a shot off, that line-mate Spencer Murphy picked up and tucked away. Seconds later, Liam Ollson dug a puck out along the boards, making a direct pass to line-mate Dylan Abel who took the breakaway and riffled a shot to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead ending the first. The second period was quiet, with the boys playing a more defensive game holding their lead, but starting the third with a penalty kill Ollson, was on the hunt and found his target, intercepting a pass and neatly tucked in #4 for the Jr. Warriors. With another penalty kill defensemen Luke Jackson picked up a puck and sent it down the ice to Abel who blew a shot top corner, for his second of the game. Murphy off the face-off plowed threw netting a back handed shot over the goalies shoulder. Next shift, Rowan Smith lined up a shot at the goalie that line-mate Abel picked up on the doorstep and tucked in to complete the hat-trick! Not letting up, defensemen Ellis Schnurr on a 4 on 4 snag a puck and found Lukas Steele's stick at centre ice, who released a quick shot that brought the boys to 8. Finishing the game with #9, was Ollson assisted by Scrimgeour. Brendan Sipple started in net, not facing many shots, but he still kept his focus and when called upon stepped up and skated away with a shutout!

Game #2 vs. Newmarket Red

The Jr. Warriors came out slower then normal and scattered for the first period. Murphy netted the first goal, assisted by Scrimgeour ending the period. The second period started with, Hallock off the face off fed Steele who blew a shot passed the goaltender making it 2-0. Schnurr took a shot from the point and Scrimgeour picked up the rebound netting the third goal with a backhand shot over the goalies glove. Midway threw the second the Jr. Warriors faced 6 penalty kills back to back, but they rose to the challenge. Newmarket couldn't compete with the silk hands of Hallock who burned majority of a penalty kill behind Newmarkets net giving the Jr. Warriors a resting period. Jordan Keane turned on the wheels ending the second hitting the back of the net to put the Jr. Warriors at 4-0. Newmarket netted their own with a minute left in the second, net minder Lachlan Stanley played a good game, covering pucks, minimizing rebounds and snagging shots out of the air.

Game #3 vs. Hamilton Huskies Red

The Jr. Warriors came up against the Huskies Saturday afternoon, it was not a positive game for the boys. They couldn't seem to get their system to work in their favour. The boys played a lot of defence stopping the Husky rushes, but had difficulty working together to create offence. Huskies scored with 11.2 seconds left in the first short handed and ending the third to take the W 2-0.

Game #4 vs. Orangeville Flyers

Shaking off the frustrating loss to the Huskies, the boys came out ready to take the W against the Flyers. The Flyers weren't going to let the Jr. Warriors skate away with an easy W, they made them earn every shot, every penalty kill, every power play, every inch of ice! The game had multiple penalties for both sides, creating 5 on 3, 4 on 4 throughout the game. The first period was a lot of quick end to end action. Smith put the Jr. Warriors on the board early in the second off Abel's rebound. The second period saw many strong battles along the boards with the Jr. Warriors out shooting the Flyers and having a flurry of offence. The third period brought more success, starting with a 3 on 1 rush with Steele carrying the puck and making a last minute pass to Owen Chadwick who hit the back of the net. Few minutes later, Hallock stole a puck of a Flyers stick and rang in the third goal for the Jr. Warriors, unassisted. Murphy followed suite, lining up his back hand shot top corner to give the boys a much needed breathing room with a 4-0. Ending the third Chadwick chipped a puck up the boards to line-mate Steele who capitalized and sealed the W for the boys with a 5-1 W. Defensemen Luke Jackson had a great game moving bodies infront of the net, making sure goaltender Stanley had a clear view. Stanley stood tall between the pipes, having an excellent game covering all angles to the mesh, making it difficult for the Flyers to find an opening.

***Would also like to give a HUGE APPLAUSE for the Flyers goaltender, who faced an incredible amount of shots and did an amazing job at stopping not only the first, but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th shot being fired at him. It was a great game to watch!**

Game #5 - Semi - Finals vs. Hamilton Huskies White

The semi-final match up was on its way with the Huskies wining the draw and charging for the net off the face off. The game continued with back and forth action, but the Jr. Warriors couldn't seem to get any solid offence moving. The Huskies did a good job of using their bodies, and pushing the Warriors out minimizing any shooting lanes.  Murphy had a good game with lots of hustle and aggressiveness awarding him the lone goal for the Warriors, midway threw the first. The Warriors stayed in the game for the first two periods, thanks to net minder Sipple!! Sipple played an outstanding game, stopping the charge of the Huskies and keeping the scoring to a minimum, hats off to you Sipple!! The Warriors fell to the Huskies 3-1.
